West Wind Environmental Systems W.L.L operates in a decentralized manner to focus service at the local level. All employees are contactable by mobile and our supervisors are constantly in check with them as to their location, should any problem occur where they need our assistance, we ensure this is given immediately. In case of accident, minor or otherwise, an investigation is carried out immediately and reports are made verbally & written.
Every Driver and senior employee possess a mobile phone, and monthly allowances are paid by the Company. This is done as a protective measure for their safety. In case of any emergency, their phone numbers are posted in conspicuous locations within our Company premises.
Staff and Personal Protection
We provide proper Personal Protective Equipment based on hazards for all our employees. All employees are required to wear blue overalls, safety boots, gloves & caps (or helmets if required).
Smoking is strictly not permitted during working hours or in their accommodation rooms. We furnish and maintain suitable metal butt cans for our employee’s use outside the offices and in their quarters.
A sufficient number of fire extinguishers for protection are provided in all the work areas of the company. All fire extinguishers are inspected periodically and our personnel properly trained in the use of fire extinguishers, and understand the responsibilities connected with the subject. Frequent inspections of their quarters and the kitchen are carried out to ensure the safety and cleanliness. All our Employees are insured by Oriental insurance Co.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES
- Personal Protective equipment: especially in case of handling hazardous waste.
- Gloves………. Chemical resistant gloves with long cuff that will overlap the long sleeves should be worn when handling this waste.
- Mask……….Should be worn if danger of dust, vapour smell etc. is likely to be encountered.
- Eyes………..If necessary, splash proof safety goggles or face shield to
be worn especially by welders.
- Footwear…… Safety boots.
- Clothing……Overall’s with long sleeves to be worn preferably of cotton
material.
- Other……….Regular eye wash, showers, and use of face & hand creams as protective measures.
All our employees are expected to follow certain rules regarding accidents. Should they be out on the field they are expected to:
1. Make a phone call to the Operations supervisor, who in turn calls our Public Relations Officer for police follow up. The Managing Director is kept informed of all events taking place.
2. Should there be any injury caused, they (the injured party), or the Operation Dept. will ensure that the police & ambulance is summoned.
3. After the accident is reported and necessary medication administered if necessary, according to the doctor’s report, an inquiry is held within our offices to find
a) Health condition of employee.
b) Cause of accident.
Action is taken according to the two reports submitted.
4. Final decision is made by Managing Director.
- Driver must always carry their current valid driving license and I.D. card.
- The vehicle must be inspected daily for proper operation by workshop staff and the driver before leaving Camp.
- Ground rules require alarms for backing of vehicles especially in congested areas to ensure that vision is not impaired and have the truck helper guide the driver.
- All traffic signs including posted speed limits and parking signs must be observed & obeyed.
- Before and during operating the vehicle, the driver must be sober (alcohol free) and be well rested.
- The use of cell phones while operating a vehicle is prohibited.
- It is prohibited to allow passengers to travel in the cargo area of any vehicle.
- All accidents that occur while on duty, regardless of severity, must be reported immediately to the Operation Manager.
- Any cargo must be secured in a manner which prevents it from falling from or shifting on the vehicle when subjected to the forces which would occur with the ‘performance criteria’.
- Cargo must be secured or contained to ensure that it will not leak, spill, blow, fall from, fall through, or, otherwise become dislodged from the vehicle; or shift within the vehicle to such an extent that the vehicles stability is adversely affected.
- Drivers who are involved in the collection & removal of hazardous waste material will be advised by the Operations supervisor of the product, its nature, and the consequences if exposed to same and the potential health effects thereafter. They are also advised of the immediate first Aid measures to be taken. Written information regarding this is available if needed.
Fire and Explosion:
In case of fire, it is recommended that the fire extinguisher is used immediately. If the fire is too much to handle the Fire brigade should be summoned immediately.
